Make OneNote Quick Notes anywhere

OneNote Quick Notes is the fast way to add a short ‘jotting’, image or whatever. How a Quick Note is made varies a lot for each OneNote app; Windows, iPhone, iPad, Mac or Web.

Windows

Windows has shortcuts and a taskbar icon for Quick Notes

In the OneNote app, go to View | New Quick Note or Ctrl + Shift + M.   No, we don’t understand why ‘New Quick Note’ is hiding on the far-right of the View tab, instead of Insert (which would make more sense) or Home tab.

Windows OneNote has the most comprehensive Quick Note features, see Quick Notes in OneNote for Windows

iPhone

On an iPhone, the OneNote app has a large + icon at bottom right of the Home screen. That will make a new Quick Note.

Or there’s a OneNote widget to make five different types of Quick Note; Note (text), Ink. List, Photo or Audio.

iPad

On the Widget screen, add the OneNote Widget.  The widget has three Quick Note options, Text, Photo or List.

Mac computers – macOS

However, there’s no equivalent ‘Quick Notes’ feature for Mac computers (macOS).

You can open the Quick Notes notebook in the OneNote for Mac app and view/edit/create note in that notebook.

In some places, the ‘help’ says that OneNote for macOS doesn’t support Quick Notes.  That’s only PART true. Sure, there’s no ‘Quick Notes’ option like on Windows, iPad or iPhone but you can still read or make Quick Notes.

OneNote on the web

Similar to macOS, there’s no Quick Notes option in OneNote in a web browser.  No ‘New Quick Note’ option on the ribbon.

Quick Notes notebook can be opened and edited but there’s no ‘fast track’ option.
