Microsoft said Office 2019 support ended on October 14, 2025. That is not what happened. Volume license customers have quietly received ten security updates since that date, the most recent on 14 July 2026. Retail buyers of Home & Student, Home & Business and Professional have received nothing at all. Here is how to tell which group you are in, the exact version number you should be running, and what to do if your copy has been left behind.
Microsoft Office 2019 (perpetual license) ended support on October 14, 2025 (the same date as Office 2016).
However, Microsoft left the door open to issue further patches past that date, at their sole discretion. . Meaning it might or might not happen and not for all Office 2019 for Windows customers. Security updates can happen as part of the Patch Tuesday monthly releases.
Reminder: to find the version and build in Office 2019 for Windows go to any app (Word, Excel, Powerpoint or Outlook classic) under File, then Account, then Product Information. Down in the “About …” section is the latest version and build. This works for any modern Office for Windows plus Microsoft 365 apps.
Retail Office 2019
If you bought Office 2019 as a retail product (Home & Student, Home & Business, or Professional) then you’re out of luck.
For retail bundles of Office 2019, support stopped on that date and there have been no patches issued since then.
The last version we can find for retail customers is version 2508 vuild 19127.20302.
Volume-license Office 2019
Volume-license Office 2019 customers (Standard or Professional Plus) have done a lot better. There have been ten updates since the supposed October 2025 cutoff, starting in November 2025. There’s been an update each month plus an extra patch in January 2026.
The most recent update, on July 14, 2026, took it to version 1808 build 10417.20176.
There may be more patches in the future, but there’s no guarantee because it’s “at Microsoft’s sole discretion”.
Different Office 2019 version numbers
You may have noticed that the software version numbers are different for the retail (v2508) and volume-license (v1808) versions of Office 2019. That’s not a typo.
Retail and volume license Office 2019 have always been on separate update tracks, even though they are both updated by “Click-to-Run” .
