Here’s a quick solution to get databases linked again if the Linked Table Manager is missing from the Database Utilities menu.
Q: Jeanne M. writes: “I sent new back-end and front-end databases to a client, and told him to re-link the front-end to the back-end, but he said there was no Linked Table Manager on the Database Utilities menu. I suppose I could write some code to do the re-linking in future, but in the meanwhile is there a quick way to get the database linked again?”
A: Yes, you can always use (or advise your client to use) this workaround: First capture a screen shot of the Tables tab, so you have a record of the linked tables. Then delete all the links, and recreate them using File|Get External Data|Link Tables. As far as the Linked Table Manager is concerned, it is probably missing because the Advanced Wizards item wasn’t included in the Office installation; advise the client to re-run Office Setup and check that component, and the Linked Table Manager should then appear on the Database Utilities menu.
