Properties options in Office 2010

There are various places to see and change document properties in Office 2010.

In Office 2010 under the File menu is ‘Backstage’ that includes the Info pane. On the right side of the Info pane all the properties pertaining to that particular document will be displayed along with a small thumbnail image of the document.

If you click on the thumbnail image you’ll be taken back to the document.

By clicking on the “Show Document Panel” a Document Properties window opens just above the document where there are text boxes to add, delete or modify fields like Author, Title, Subject, Keywords, Category, Status and Comments. This is the same as in Office 2007.

After making the necessary changes you can close this window by clicking on X button at the top right corner of the Document Properties window. The changes will be automatically saved.

Edit Advanced File Properties

There is a separate option to modify the Advanced Properties of the file, the same option as in Office 2007.

This can be accessed by clicking on “Advanced Properties” option under the Properties menu or you can even access it by clicking on the small down arrow beside Document Properties header in the Document Properties window.

When you click on the Advanced Properties option the Properties window pops open which has various tabs like General, Summary, Statistics, Contents and Custom where corresponding information like file location, creation date, file type, document title, author, file verification data and template will be displayed. Some of these properties can be edited while others can just be viewed. After making the changes click on OK button.
