It’s reassuring to see the experts get it wrong.
One of the very minor sub-plots in the story of the Ballmer resignation came from ValleyWag.
Steve Ballmer sent a company-wide email announcing his retirement plans. The Managing Director of Microsoft Research, Roy Levin, replied from his Windows Phone.
Only his reply didn’t just go to Mr Ballmer, it went to every Microsoft employee
Many companies have an ‘All Staff’ group address, it’s easy to setup in Exchange Server. Usually the right to send to that address is limited to high ranking staff, for obvious reasons.
Mr Levin’s mistake is a common one, pressing ‘Reply to All’ instead of ‘Reply’.
At least he was correct, the speculation on Steve Ballmer’s successor went from zero to ‘high gear’ in record time.
