PowerPoint 2016 - January 2016 update

There’s just one January 2016 change in PowerPoint 2016 for Windows but it’s big and very useful.

We have extensive coverage of the overall changes that apply to Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  Check out separate articles on the specific new features in Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

It’s now possible for people to work on the same PowerPoint presentation at the same time and see the changes made very quickly.  Microsoft calls this ‘real time’ collaboration but that’s a stretch … changes are pushed to other users quite quickly but not immediate.

It works in a similar way as Word’s document collaboration.  Each document editor is given a color and that’s used to show where they are working on the presentation.  Either in the slide thumbnails or the part of a slide.  Click on the icon to see the editors name.

Save the document on OneDrive, Sharepoint or some other cloud location that supports Office document collaboration.

Use the Share options in PowerPoint to give access to others.  Either click on the Share button or choose File | Share.

The share button shows how many people have the presentation open.  Hover over the button to see their names or click on the button to open the Share pane.
