Office ransomware hasn't gone away

Ransomware hasn’t gone away, it’s just not making headlines.

MalwareBytes reports that two more variations of the Locky ransomware have appeared in the last few weeks.

Beware DOC and DOCM

They spread in ZIP files or the hackers favorite way to infect a computer, Microsoft Office files, most likely Word documents.

.DOC or .DOCM files are easy to hack and infect computers.

PDF with attachments

PDF files can contain embedded attachments (much like email attachments) and those attachments can be infected.  There are reports of PDF’s with malicious .DOCM files included.

Keep your anti-virus software up to date (mostly likely Windows Defender that comes with the operating system) and be wary of incoming files from any source.
