At last! The clutter of right-hand panes in Microsoft Word is ending and we’re getting tabbed panes. Very welcome news for laptop users with less screen real estate.
This is new in Outlook for Windows v1912 build 12325.20012. ‘Insiders’ first and later for general release, with a proviso mentioned below.
According to Microsoft:
“ Now you can switch between multiple panes using a tab UI on the right hand side of the app. The UI will only be visible when you have 2+ panes open. ”
Source: Microsoft – we cropped and highlighted.
Mind you, even with the current Insiders build, we could not get tabbed panes working.
Two or more panes still appear with no tab interface in sight. Or adding new panes just closes existing panes automatically. As with all Insiders builds, there’s more work to be done.
As a result we can’t tell you (yet) if Microsoft’s mention of ‘2+’ means ‘Two panes or more’ or ‘More than two panes’.
