Does Microsoft Word think ‘Walz’ is a spelling error?

Can Microsoft Word handle a newly famous name “Walz” or does Word think it’s a spelling error? What about the other VP candidate, “Vance”?

In the last few hours, we’ve seen social media posts like this:

“ Okay, word people, now would be a great time to put a “Walz vs. waltz” sticky note on your monitor, because autocorrect is going to be SO confused.”

A funny socials post but not correct at all. Microsoft Word walz spelling will NOT mark either Vice-Presidential candidate as a spelling mistake.

Word won’t get confused because the names are already in their dictionary. Maybe they added Mr Walz as the Governor of a US state? “Walz” wasn’t added in the last few hours, we checked with an offline version of Word 365 that hasn’t been updated for a few weeks.

All lower-case versions will get the red squiggly line because the names should be capitalized.

Some other spell checkers will get it wrong, like an iPhone. But Microsoft Word walz spelling is precise.
