It seems you can’t drag content from IE11 in Windows 8.1 into Word.
As we mentioned recently, you can drag content from a browser to Word. In fact you can drag content between many applications.
David K. has noticed an interesting anomaly with Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11.
You can’t drag content from an IE11 window. A red prohibition symbol appears when you try to drag into Word or any other program.
David says you could with Windows 8 (we haven’t had a chance to check).
That’s curious on its own but stranger when you discover that standard copy/paste between IE and Word is working fine.
Even stranger, dragging from Google Chrome to Word is also working fine.
So the problem seems limited to Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer.
Not a big problem since copy/paste still works from IE but it does raise the question – why? Presumably Microsoft’s (much boasted) testing picked up this bug in a quite basic feature of Internet Explorer, but it was decided not to fix before release?
