The latest Windows 11 update will delete Wordpad from the computer. Here’s how to get it back and keep it on Windows.
As promised back in February 2024, the Windows 11 24H2 update deletes the Wordpad app. That’s a shame because Wordpad could open Microsoft Word documents (.docx) files offline and without buying Office or Microsoft 365.
Microsoft says you can use the browser based version of Word, which is true if your computer has Internet access.
Wordpad might not get a lot of use but it’s mighty handy to have when it’s needed.
If you haven’t updated Windows yet, try making a copy of the existing Wordpad files see Save your WordPad before it’s too late for details.
Download Wordpad and install
An alternative is downloading and installing Wordpad from another source. One of those is Win7Games.com which has many older Windows apps. Their Wordpad download comes with an installer, is both 32 and 64-bit and includes many language files.
As regular readers know, we don’t normally recommend downloading from third-party sources but sometimes it’s necessary.
