Festive malware arrives via Word documents

Criminals don’t even respect Santa and the festive season with malware infested emails pretending to be holiday schedules or the Christmas party.  Is nothing sacred?

Cofense Labs report that Emotet botnet is being spread via Word documents with timely emails for the end of the year.

All these dangerous emails include a .doc Word file which contains the malware. As we’ve mentioned many times before, emails .doc files are often used to infect computers and we suggest never opening .doc .xls or .ppt attachments.

Christmas Party next week

Any half-decent email checking service should stop these messages.  The .doc file is a danger sign on it’s own and the botnet is also well known.  Still, the best defense is your own vigilance.
