Put 2022 World Cup fixtures in your Outlook calendar

Don’t miss a match in the 2022 FIFA World Cup (soccer) in Qatar.   Here’s how to keep track of your team and when the live broadcast will be in your time zone – all by adding a calendar to Microsoft Outlook. Where to get reliable match details and add them to Outlook.

There are 55 World Cup matches between 20 November and 18 December.  We’ll show how to add the matches just for your country’s team or all the games into an Outlook calendar.

Outlook for Windows or Mac can help, combined with an online calendar of World Cup fixtures.  You can have a calendar of matches to view ‘side-by-side’ with your own appointments or merge the calendars. That makes it easy to schedule meetings around the matches you want to see 😀

Outlook for Mac see Put 2022 World Cup fixtures in your Outlook for MAC calendar adding an Internet calendar is also possible,

We’ve looked around the Internet for a reliable source which has good time zone formatting.  We’ve tested online calendars with Outlook’s in different time zones to make sure the events are converted to the correct local time.

The best option we’ve found is ….

Fixtur.es  https://fixtur.es/en/wedstrijden/fifa-world-cup-qatar-2022
Thanks to the amazing Camilla Wright for the tip!

They have an online calendar that anyone can use, around the globe.  It has the necessary (but too often omitted) time zone info in a format that Outlook will use.

Their calendar appears in Outlook with matches converted to the local time of broadcast.  Here’s all the 2022 FIFA World Cup fixtures in Outlook for Windows, on the left we’ve added two time zones (Qatar and London).

Compatibility: adding calendars from the Internet has been in Outlook for many years. Outlook 365, Outlook 2021, Outlook 2019, Outlook 2016 and Outlook 2013.

Fixtur.es has many options for choosing which matches to show, we’ll get to that below. For now we’ll use the complete match list at https://fixtur.es/en/wedstrijden/fifa-world-cup-qatar-2022

First, make sure the Time Zone selection is correct. The web page will choose for you based on your computers clock, see the ‘In your timezone’, bottom right.  Change if you want the match timings in a different time zone or the web page has guessed wrong (unlikely but does happen).

Then get the match details in a form Outlook can understand.

Right-click on the ‘Microsoft Outlook’ option and choose ‘Copy Link’ or equivalent in your browser.

The link for a list of all 2022 FIFA World Cup matches via Fixtur.es is
 webcal://ics.fixtur.es/v2/league/fifa-world-cup-qatar-2022.ics

That link works for both Microsoft Outlook and Apple iCal.

In Outlook for Windows, use that link to get the live calendar at My Calendars | Add Calendar | From Internet.

Paste the link into the “New Internet calendar subscription” box, press OK.

Wait a moment while Outlook grabs the data from the Internet. The events now appear as a separate calendar in the calendar list at left.
