Check an Excel option for little performance boost

There’s an obscure little Excel option that’s worth checking to give you a little performance boost.

The choice is File | Option | Advanced | Print | “Include fonts that are stored on the printer”

An obscure option that most people never bother with.  “Printer fonts” are fonts in the printer itself which Windows can use, instead of sending font details from the software.

The option is usually OFF and it should stay that way unless specifically needed.

From the July 2023 update to Microsoft 365, leaving the printer fonts option off gives a small performance boost.  According to Microsoft:

“If you do not use printer fonts or have not heard of printer fonts, unchecking the setting in File / Options / Advanced / [lnclude fonts that are stored on the printer] can help speed up font related operations such as choosing a font from font drop down, or formatting a cell by bolding/italicizing a cell’s font, etc.”

Likely the boost is minor to unnoticeable but it was enough for Microsoft to note it.  And every little bit helps.

This only applies to Excel 365 for Windows from version 2307 build 16626.20132 released 26 July 2023.
