Dropbox software

Getting the free Dropbox software.

The free Dropbox program is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. It will synchronize your cloud storage with local folders, saving you the hassle of manually uploading/downloading each file.  All the file transfers happen in the background.

Dropbox software is the best and easiest way to use Dropbox storage.  Most of the time you won’t need to bother with the web site at all.  Simply copy, move, change or delete files in the Dropbox folders on your computer (just like normal Window/Mac folders) and the software will handle mirroring your changes to the cloud.

From your Dropbox account choose your account name at top right then ‘Install’.

Install the Dropbox software, login using your Dropbox account and it’ll start synchronization.

Note that the software works on any Internet connection. If you’re using a data limited connection (which has limits on the amount of data used) then Dropbox could eat up your MB or GB limit quickly.

There are also Dropbox apps for many mobile devices – Android, iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Kindle Fire however these apps have synchronization and other limitations. Currently there is no official Dropbox app for Windows Phone. The iOS and Android apps have the very handy Camera Upload feature.

John T. tells us that the BlackBerry app is ‘read only’ and has no way to upload files (other than photos and videos) which is a strange and unfortunate limitation of the app.
