Copilot Search now on the Word title bar

Copilot is now appearing on the Microsoft Word title bar as part of the combined search and help, now called “Copilot Search”. The Copilot ‘ads’ for blank documents keep changing too.

In the latest Word 365 Insiders builds the Search box (which combines Find, Help and broader Searches) is now labelled ‘Copilot’ and starts with more AI prompts.

The box has been renamed ‘Copilot Search’ box – still with the Alt + Q shortcut in Windows.

Except for ‘Find in Document’ all the other features in this multi-talented box have been hidden in favor of promoting Microsoft’s AI service.

  • Summarize this document
  • Suggest some QAs *
  • Explain this document in three sentences
  • Write a compelling into paragraph to this document.

* “QAs’ are, we assume  “Questions and Answers”.  We can’t be sure because the prompt doesn’t work (yet).

These four prompts appear even if it’s a new blank document, which makes no sense at all. (in the current Insiders build, even those prompts don’t work.  The Copilot side-pane just opens up)

All the existing features of this “Tell Me” or “Search” multi-purpose box are still there;, find in document and find in files.  But they’ve been hidden in favor of promoting Copilot.

New blank documents with Copilot

Blank documents are currently getting this Copilot addition which can be removed using the ‘Close Copilot’ menu option or just start typing.

However, there’s no way to stop the Copilot prompts from appearing for every new document.
