The Washington Post has done an interesting comparison of AI services and their email drafts for some difficult situation. Microsoft’s Copilot came last.
Check out “We asked 5 AI helpers to write tough emails. One was a clear winner.” (login may be required)
The headline is a little misleading. Copilot came last in this comparison, The others, ChatGPT, DeepSeek and Gemini all scored in the 40-45% range.
Claude scored the highest though only with a 50% score, hardly a ‘clear winner’.
With a score of just 23%, Copilot was dismissed as “writes emails that sound like AI” “ very stiff and soulless” and “the wordiest of the AIs”.
Microsoft has tweaked Copilot very much to suit their corporate customers. Or perhaps more accurately what Microsoft thinks their business users want.
This test only confirms what we’ve been saying for a long time. AI has a place but doesn’t come close to justifying the hype, especially Microsoft’s “over the top” promotion.
AI writing has become so common that experienced readers can detect it’s unique tell-tales.
AI can help drafting emails or rewriting text. It’s the most effective cure for “writers block” since the Muses. However, AI isn’t a complete cure. Some human attention is necessary to complete the job.
